We hope that you will join us for one of our many events.  There are weekly coffee groups, play dates, Bridge, Bunco, adventure activities, tennis club, book club, service projects, adult socials, monthly luncheons and much more.

Our History

Newcomers and Friends of Laredo was formed in 1983 by Jody Townsend, the wife of Laredo’s first City Manager. Finding it hard to meet new friends, she went about starting a New Resident’s Club. She soon found that Laredo had many newcomers that were ready and willing to join. When people who were either born in Laredo or who had lived here for years expressed an interest in joining, the club’s name was changed to Newcomers and Friends of Laredo, Inc. The club has grown steadily since that time and many lifelong friendships have been formed.

Our Motto

Building Community and Fostering Friendships for 30 years and Counting.

Dear Members and Friends,

The Newcomers and Friends of Laredo Board would like to send you our warmest greetings. During this time of social distancing and physical isolation, please know that we are here to support you and keep you updated with city information. All of our events have been cancelled or postponed until it is safe again to enjoy activities together in person. However, please enjoy the  digital spaces that we have to stay connected and share ideas.

On Facebook, we will be sharing ideas about how to stay busy (and keep our kids busy) and we will continue to keep you posted on important city information.

You can find the complete description of the city Emergency Ordinance and Executive Order Guidelines here (effective March 20).

We understand that due to uncertainty and fear, certain resources are currently hard to come by and we would like to encourage members to reach out for assistance so that we can help each other in this time of need.

We will do our best to keep you advised of options and to share our collective creativity and ingenuity. I know many of us are also happy to share what we have whenever possible. Please ask!

Additionally, here are some local restaurants that are offering pick-up and delivery:

Let’s get through these difficult times together.

We are here for you,

-The Newcomers and Friend of Laredo
